Anthony Gose, the Blue Jays number 2 prospect made his Major League debut last night at Yankee stadium as a pinch-hitter and made his first career start this afternoon in right field against the Yankees. The Jays called up Gose from Triple-A Las Vegas after Jose Bautista was placed on the 15 day disabled list.
While many fans voiced their preference for Travis Snider, John Farrell says Anthony Gose was the best choice, and I don’t think I can disagree (as much as I wish I could). The main reason for my agreeing is because Alex Anthopolous has said that the next time the Blue Jays recall Travis Snider, it will be for good. This time will most likely be about two weeks, and Anthony Gose will probably be sent back to Triple-A when Joey Bats returns.
While Snider has better stats in Vegas, he’s also only played in 54 games, compared to Anthony Gose’s 92. In those 92 Las Vegas games, Anthony Gose has collected a .292/.375/.432 triple slash line with 5 home runs and 29 stolen bases, compared to Snider’s .320/.413/.542 with 10 home runs. So as you can see, the decision could have gone either way and we’ll probably end up seeing Lunchbox in September and next year (that is if they don’t end up trading him.
Proud to have watched Anthony Gose these last few months continue to develop in to one hell of player. Congrats brotha. #fightin51s
